A New Venture · Season Six

A composer inside the sound.

Kenneth Martin has been named Composer-in-Residence for Fox Chamber Singers’ 2026–2027 season.

The residency brings composition into direct conversation with rehearsal and performance. Ken will create new work, invite singers and listeners farther inside the texts and musical ideas, and participate in the ensemble as a bass singer.

It is a genuinely 360-degree collaboration: the composer writes for the voices around him, learns the music from inside the ensemble, responds to the musicians who inhabit it, and performs among those same singers when the score reaches the audience.

The collaboration begins with

Love’s Insistent Voice

SATB Choir + Piano
Optional Wind Ensemble + Rhythm Section

Premiering November 8 with Fox Chamber Singers as part of En Masse.

From the Director

Chamber music begins with the individual singer.

Chamber choirs depend upon the quality of each singer—their voice, heart, skill, and intricate listening.

Every piece is built differently. Harmony, melody, rhythm, or text may lead, and the way those elements are employed and crafted makes each composer and each work of art unique.

With smaller works, we have the opportunity to span centuries and genres, sometimes smoothly and sometimes jarringly, shaping the path the audience is invited to follow.

Community completes the experience. A live acoustic concert can never be the same as listening to a recording. When we gather, we recognize one another’s humanity and are reminded that people are capable of extraordinary beauty and thought.
